I was still trying to recover from the shock of everything when Leo gently placed a hand on my back and cleared his throat.

“Alright,” he said calmly, in that boss-voice that still startled me every time, “let’s begin properly.”

Properly?

My heart thudded.

He started with introductions.

Six individuals lined up.

“This is the CEO, Andrew.”

“Welcome,” he said.

“Thanks,” I replied.

“The manager Zack.”

Zack bowed slightly.

“Good to have you here, ma’am.”

“Just Charlotte is okay, and thank you,” I replied.

“My personal assistant and secretary, Lois.”

“Wel…welcome, ma’am,” Lois stuttered.

I noticed she was anxious.

“Thanks, Lois,” I said softly.

My own hands were shaking nervously—I hoped they didn’t notice.

“This is the head of Research and Robotics.”

A man bowed slightly.

“Welcome, ma’am.”

“This is the head of Engineering.”
