It was exactly five minutes before Leo came back.
I didn’t notice at first. I was lying on my side, facing the wall, staring at nothing in particular.
Then the mattress dipped behind me, and he cursed, mumbling something.
I swallowed tightly and pretended to be asleep.
He slipped an arm around my waist and pulled me toward him.
I didn’t move.
He pressed his face into my hair and exhaled slowly, like he’d been holding his breath since he left the room.
“You said we needed a break,” I said, my brows arched, still facing the wall.
“Yeah,” he murmured. “Five minutes. That’s all. It’s over.”
His voice was calm, almost casual, like he hadn’t just dropped a word that shattered something inside me.
Like he wasn’t a cheat who had accused me of being crazy for noticing something was off with him.
I wanted to yell.
But… what difference would it make?
