“What’s she doing here?” I ask Zeath, but I want his mother to reply instead.

And she does. “You may not know this since you’ve been busy two-timing my son with another man but there’s rumors spreading about the Lupins being cursed after my mother’s estate burned down to ashes with her inside. The board thought East wasn’t fit as Chairman and voted him out. Now he has gone MIA with his family.”

“You still didn’t answer my question as to what you’re doing here.”

Vietili squints her eyes. “You know, I’m still confused as to which you are; Tara Charles or Mellow Fanning.”

“It has nothing to do with you.”

“It has everything to do with me, considering you married my son. By the way, where’s the child you had? I heard you guys made a baby.”

I scoff, moseying forward to approach Vietili. I wonder what kind of mother she is to abandon her son for so long without even knowing whether he had a child or not, only to show up at her point of need.
