It was near midnight when they left, the six of them, all powerful witches, poised and ready for action. Merga had made up her mind; she could not afford to lose the support of the witches in the coven, could not afford to be ostracized and excommunicated, which is what would have come with disobeying Mother Eleanor's direct orders. She had only one hope — that Robert had heeded her warnings already and ran for his life from the cottage. If he had not, there would be devastating consequences. There was no telling what would be done to him. Perhaps he would be killed on the spot, or brought to the coven and tortured. The witches in the coven had a lot of spite and resentment in their hearts against humans, and that was understandable considering how the humans had treated them during the Great Purge.
