Back at the coven, Merga had been in a sort of isolation. Most of the witches she knew avoided her, and when she was in her room, or not around, they talked about her. It became increasingly frustrating and the wave of loneliness she felt was unbearable. It was not like she could go to the cottage for time alone, or meet up with Robert. She lived her life afflicted with abject boredom and an overwhelming sense of being alone in the world. She thought often about Robert.
