She wasn’t back yet, she still had a few more hours with her family, but her absence felt thick. It felt so much like something you couldn’t ignore even if you tried.
The house was quieter without her, and not that she was one to make so much noise or her presence came with much movement, but still, there seemed to be a void in the house. Maybe, just maybe, it was the void in my heart, aching so bad that I carried it about in the house. An overwhelming silence, thicker than actual loss itself, it felt like something had been removed, like someone had drawn all the color from the walls and left behind shadows and emptiness.
I could hardly believe I felt this way. It seemed as though some part of me had gone with her, and while I fought the thought badly, I couldn’t deny it for long. I missed her. Gone for a few seconds or minutes or hours, barely even a day, it felt as though my world had shifted a bit and yes, I shouldn’t feel this.
