Chapter 84
Lyra’s POV
A sharp ache tore through my chest, as though a thousand knives had found their mark in my heart, twisting and turning until I gasped for breath. Every step felt heavy, my legs weighed down by the pain and disbelief that churned inside me. I followed Audrey down the hallway, my feet moving on autopilot, much like a child tagging along after a parent—helpless, confused, and unable to speak.
When we reached my room, I barely noticed the plush carpet or the muted light filtering through the curtains. I sank onto the bed, pushing the duvet aside, and stared blankly at the pale walls. Audrey’s voice hovered around me, distant and muffled, as if she were calling across a vast canyon.
“Lyra, look at me,” she urged softly.
Her words filtered in, too faint to grasp. My body felt numb, as though I were dead and my mind kept vigil over something I could no longer control.
