Chapter 83
Audrey’s POV
We all arrived home a little earlier than expected, giving ourselves plenty of time to get ready before the pool party kicked off. The late afternoon sun was warm on my skin as I set foot inside the house, dragging my bag across the tile floor. Almost at once, I heard Lyra’s voice calling out behind me.
“Audrey!” Her tone vibrated with concern.
I halted mid-step and turned, waiting for her to catch up. She broke into a calm smile as she drew near. “Hey, girl—what’s wrong?” she asked gently.
I squared my shoulders, determined to sound confident. “I’m fine.” I offered a bold reply, despite the flutter of nerves in my chest. Lately, I’d been hiding in the shadows, barely daring to step fully into the light.
Lyra frowned softly, stepping closer. “I didn’t see you at dinner last night, and you weren’t around this morning either,” she said with careful calm. “Are you okay?”
I forced a smile. “I went jogging with Chloe,” I replied.
