Chapter 81. It’s the Heart

Avery’s POV

I turn, surprised to see the people standing at the entrance: Estella, Anita, Marcella, and Nana.

Nana quickly pads across the living room and throws her arms around me in a tight hug. “My daughter! I am sorry for not coming earlier.” She apologizes, patting my back in an affectionate manner.

Maybe it’s Nana’s motherly gesture or the warmth I feel from her, but I start crying as soon as she hugs me.

“Cry it all out, my dear.” She encourages me, hugging me even closer. After a few minutes, I regain myself, and we settle on the couch in the living room. From the way they are all staring at me with apologetic gazes, I know they have something to say.

“We wanted to come at once when Ethan rescued you, but he insisted you needed some rest from the… incident.” Nana said, breaking the awkward silence.

I give her a small smile and reach out to hold her hands. “It’s okay, Nana.”

A toothy grin appears on her face. “You are too sweet
