Before I could ask Adrian more, Liam mumbled something in his sleep, breaking the moment. I swallowed the dozens of questions suddenly pressing against my tongue and turned to look at him.

“It’s okay,” I murmured. “Everything’s alright. Go back to sleep.”

The car idled at a red light as I reached into the backseat, my fingers finding Liam’s shoulder. I patted him gently until he stirred with a sleepy sigh before settling back into place.
