Zevara’s POV
I cleared my throat and finally choked out, “Because I’m with your… Father, Talon.”
The words dropped like a bombshell and I swear.. it’s exploded everywhere. Every damn place in the corridor.
At first he didn’t react. He didn’t even act like he heard the words I spoke. Then as if my words were just settling in.. Talon’s eyes narrowed. His mouth was wide open in disbelief. The vein in his throat was visible as he swallowed hard as if my words had just crushed the deepest part of his soul.
I was the one who said the words but it struck me myself. To the deepest part of my heart—until it felt like I couldn’t nearly breathe. And for a moment, I regretted it. I shouldn’t have told him the truth even though he deserved it because sometimes the truth hurts so much and should be hidden to protect the other person.
