Chapter 37. Awakening

Cassian POV

When Lyra’s body begins to quake, she looks at me with terror in her eyes, and I can say I feel the same way. Something is happening to her, and every nerve in my body tenses, ready to protect her from the threat.

But it only takes me a moment to figure out what is happening.

Her scent has suddenly come alive. It was there before, strong enough for me to catch it anytime she was near, but now, it completely envelops me.

I see a new look in her eyes, an easily recognizable glint.

It’s all clear now. No wonder the Moon Goddess paired us as mates.

I quickly move from protective mode to reassuring. “It’s okay,” I tell her, stroking her cheek gently. “She doesn’t want much right now. I marked you, and she wants you to mark me.”
