Janet's latest boyfriend Stevie was nothing like Jilly's Matt. He was mean and surly and you could barely get a word out of him.

I guess that was for the best because the things I did hear him say, I wasn't pleased with. He was short-tempered and nothing ever was good enough. I didn't know how Janet could put up with him. It was her choice though and I wasn't going to interfere. As long as he made her happy, I would have to learn to put up with his smart mouth and unpleasant ways.

Janet was my middle daughter. She and I hardly ever saw eye to eye but we tried our best to get along. She and Stevie were coming for a visit in August. Jilly and Matt's recent departure after their month-long stay had left me surprisingly lonely. Although Stevie was far from my favorite person, I was looking forward to them coming. Janet hadn't been home in quite some time and I missed her dearly.

Hopefully, Stevie and I would get along well enough to not spoil the visit.
