I tapped my fingers impatiently, waiting for Rena and her siblings to make their way downstairs. Truthfully, nerves danced in my stomach; I couldn't deny the anxiety that fluttered within me. I had no clear plan on how to approach them or how to explain the complex situation I had with their sister.
Naturally, I couldn't reveal that our relationship was based on a contract marriage; that would be awkward and overwhelming for them to digest. Instead, I had to present it as if Rena and I were genuinely involved, with something meaningful and sincere between us.
The nerves were further worsened by my inexperience in dealing with kids, especially teenagers. I was aware of the challenges they could pose, and having no siblings to provide me with insights made the situation even more uncertain. I hoped fervently that I would choose my words wisely and that they wouldn't be too difficult to interact with.
