"Daddy!" Shawn screams, rushing toward me with excitement. I scoop him up in my arms, his laughter filling the room. 

"How are you, son?" I ask, holding him close while my eyes flick toward the hallway every few seconds, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nadine. 

"She'll be out soon," Rosa says from the side, with a knowing smile on her face. She's noticed the way I can't stop glancing toward the hallway. 

"Oh, okay," I reply, trying to mask my anticipation. 

"Daddy, when can we go to the park?" Shawn asks suddenly, catching me off guard. I hadn't expected him to ask for anything, but hearing it from him melts my heart. How could I ever say no to this boy? 

"Hm, the park? You want to go to the park?" I repeat, pretending to think it over even though I've already made up my mind. 

"Alright, soon, son. I'll talk to your mum, and we'll set a date."
