I came out from between the trees, only to see an open land and no sign of a human being. Or any living thing.

I looked around the place but there was no one there. And for a moment I think it is all in my head, but I know what I heard.

I couldn't be making things up.

Even if I was hallucinating, I definitely wouldn't conjure up my father. Ever.

He is not on my mind most of the time, so this is random. Which tells me, I heard right.

He has to be here somewhere. Maybe they heard me and moved. They were here.

No traces of them. Not even a faint trail of scent.

A familiar voice in my head mocks. It sounded a lot like my father.

He always liked to point out when I was wrong. Then he would blame whatever I got wrong on my mother.

He said she made me weak.

It was rich coming from him. Knowing he is not even half the man that she is. Half the partner, half the parent. And especially half the leader that she is.
