Chapter 25. Before Silence Breaks
That night, the guards swept the grounds and house twice at Jared's insistence.
Jared still cross-checked the entire mansion, then checked on Myla. He smiled softly when he saw her already sleeping. Then he went to his room.
He lay awake in the dim room, sleep refusing to come, no matter how much he tried. Counting sheep didn't work, nor did trying different lying positions.
Staring at the ceiling, his mind flashed to the day's events.
In as much as he liked how successful Hayden became, he never envied him. Being known by so many and always in the public eye was not something he could enjoy or endure because people were... people. Over the years, he had watched the way the media had always found a way to turn every little thing and mistake Hayden made into a scandal. From him making his company public to his dating life to his marriage to Myla, then his accident. They always had something negative to say.
He won't say he blamed them too much
