Chapter 74. Breaking Walls

Hayden adjusted the last buckle of his leg braces and reached for his crutches. The morning light spilled through the curtains, catching on the metal, making it gleam.

He walked to the doorway, then paused, standing there for a moment contemplating.

He turned back towards the bed where Myla was still lying with Beck, both talking and laughing about something under their breaths, and something inside him softened.

“Myla?”

She looked at him, giving him a soft smile. “Hmm?”

“Would you… like to come with me today?” he asked, his tone careful... almost shy. “To therapy. I think I’d like that.”

Her eyes widened in surprise, then softened with warmth. “Are you sure?” she whispered, rising slowly.

“Yes,” he confirmed, meeting her gaze steadily. “I’m sure.”

She gave him a dazzling, joyful smile that momentarily made him forget the weight of his own body.
