Chapter 31. Unexpected
The castle was built by the late Baron because he was a person of importance and has wealth. He could afford to build a large and imposing castle that rivaled the royal castles. The courtyard which is called a bailey was protected by a ditch and a palisade, strong timber fence. The entrance was protected by a lifting bridge. Inside the bailey were stables, workshops, and a chapel. The motte was the final refuge in this castle.
As they got inside, Ramsey mounted down from his horse, followed by Ruth and Scott. “The Baroness will be pleased to see you. Follow me,” said Ramsey.
Scott brought his mouth close to Ruth’s ear and then whispered to her, “Is like he doesn’t know your mother has been trying to kill you.”
