Chapter 190. The Harsh Truth

The burn from the slap lingered but the ringing of my ear had quieted down a bit. I took in a deep breath and let it out as tears filled my eyes. I took a step back in fear as I stared at the bulged eyes of May. 

“Stay out of this,” She said in a tight tone to her daughter as she turned her attention back to me, walking closer to me. “After all we did for you? Are you serious? After everything, this is what you choose to do?” 

“I–” I did not even know what to say, I was lost as to what she was talking about and I just wanted to understand so badly. Alan had gotten out of the car and he was standing next to it, watching the chaos. “What did I do?” I finally managed to ask, my voice small and filled with pain. 

She scoffed. “You convinced our daughter to move out all because you want a place to stay? She texted me, Rue! She f*cking texted me about moving out with you!” 

“Mom! Can you please stop!” Amber jumped back into the conversation, making sur
