Zach blinked, clearly caught off guard. “The orphanage?” He repeated, skepticism lacing his tone. “Vanessa, that is awful. That’s the last place that Rue would want to go, you know how she was treated by there. If we have to rent a place for her, we can afford that. But no the orphanage.”
My heart was pounding so hard and I could barely breathe. The mention of me going back to that hellhole had my throat dry and my nerves all over the place. I did not want to go back there.
