The Stalker Next Door: 37. Proof of Fire

The cabin smelled of blood and sweat. Splintered wood littered the floor, the wreckage of their clash still scattered like bones across the room. Mara sat against the wall, arms wrapped tight around her knees, her throat raw from screaming.

Neither man had left.

The First paced like a caged beast, knife flashing as he stalked from one side of the cabin to the other. His shirt was torn, his chest streaked with blood, his eyes wild with sleepless rage.

The Second leaned in the corner, silent as shadow, a gash split along his lip but his expression eerily calm. His gaze never left Mara. Cold. Calculating. Waiting. Expecting. 

She could barely breathe between them. She felt trapped and very frightened but she was not going to give them the satisfaction of knowing that. She never courted their attention to begin with. They were the people who started watching her. So, they were the ones to blame for the situation that had escalated to this extent. They should
