Chapter 80
Vince was discharged the next day, and I had to drive all the way to where he was held to pick him up. Despite the sadness that had cast a shadow on my face since the meeting with Melissa, seeing Vince again as a free man helped to suppress those feelings. It made me realize the need to continue fighting for him and for our marriage.
“I am now a free man, my wife,” Vince said, moving closer to hug and squeeze me tightly. “Thank you for everything you did to get me out of here, Laura. I will forever be in debt to you, my wife.”
I had driven to the jail with mixed emotions. In my head, I had already started planning how to make the best of this second chance granted to our relationship. The thought of not having Vince by my side every night for the rest of my life, enduring the feeling of emptiness, made me sad. But now, with him finally out, I felt a newfound strength—the same strength that had driven me to defend our marriage when Melissa made a mockery of it.
