Chapter 79

I ignored Melissa and started eating the food she had given me without caring about what she was saying. Then I stopped eating and looked at her when it appeared as if she had something very interesting to tell me.

“You are thinking about something special,” Melissa said to me.

I shook my head. “Not even close. You are not even on the right track.”

“No, I’m not. You are lying, Laura.”

“I am not lying, Melissa. You are not even close to being correct in figuring out what is going on in my mind.”

“You’re wrong about that,” Melissa said as she smiled at me.

“Whatever,” I replied, and then I picked up my fork and took a bite of the food in front of me.

“You are wondering why I wanted to take you out to dinner,” Melissa said.

“Nope. I was actually thinking about how hungry I was.”

“Right, and that’s why you are eating. You’re hungry, and you were wondering why I wanted to have a private dinner with you. I thought it would be nice for
