My phone started ringing, waking me up. I looked at Lena, who was still asleep and didn't notice the call. I got up carefully and grabbed the phone. I answered. It was Carla's doctor calling me. He said she wanted to see me.

"It's Carla, Dean. She's distressed. She wants to see you. I looked for you at the hospital and couldn't find you. When I told her, she exploded. It's better if you come because Carla might face another miscarriage threat."

My heart pounded hard. I didn't want her to lose the baby because it was also my child. If she lost it, I would feel like I was dying. My child meant a lot to me. The thought terrified me.

"Tell her I'm on my way. I'm close to the hospital. Please don't leave her alone," I pleaded. "I'll come right away."
