Her two friends said nothing. Selene looked from one to the other, waiting for a reply.

“Yeah? Let’s have it. Why are you both upset and not jumping up in celebration that I’ve found my mate?” She could feel her initial anger returning, only this time it was directed at her best friend and her new friend.

“I’m not upset,” Michael told her with a strained smile.

“You’re lying,” she said flatly. “You’ve been ignoring me.”

“No, I haven’t.”

“Yes, you have. When you all came back to the office, you kept avoiding my gaze. I didn’t even get a smile from you to show me you were happy for me,” she accused him.

She had not paid much attention to his reaction the day before, too happy about finding her mate. She had only noticed her best friend’s behavior in the early hours of the morning after she left Xavier to go to the room she was occupying. She stopped by Michael’s room to share her excitement, but he told her he was sleepy and couldn’t talk.
