Chapter 71
Emma trailed into the visiting room in the police station. She sat down, waiting for a cop to bring her father from his holding cell. This was the first time she had come to visit him since he was arrested.
She hadn’t been able to bring herself to face him. She and her mother had been staying with Meg’s parents since Bianca fired them. But they were about to pay for a small apartment with some of the money they had saved up. The rest was to be used to hire a lawyer for her father.
The door of the visiting room screeched open, and a cop walked in. Her father was behind the cop, his wrists chained. He sat down opposite Emma. There were dark circles under his eyes.
“I’m sorry, Dad,” Emma said, tears bursting from her eyes.
"No one is above mistakes, Emma," he said calmly.
