Jessie's words had caught her off guard. It had been eight years since they had been together. How could things have gone so wrong in just one day? "How did that happen? He was a pleasant person. Did you end your relationship with him because you found someone who is wealthier than he is?" Bev had inquired.
"I didn't do it. What do you take me for?" Jessie inquired. She let go of Bev's hand.
"What occurred after that?"
Jessie sighed once more. "Marco wasn't the man I had expected. The night I wanted to chat to him about my career, he finally showed me his true colors."
"Did he say anything?"
"He made fun of me, Bev. He mocked me. I felt broken for the first time in my life."
