Chapter 18
The girl felt lost, even more ashamed, and her entire face burned, evident in her resemblance to a tomato.
"But why?"
Emma lifted her dress to cover both breasts, feeling self-conscious. Sebastian got to his feet, cursing under his breath but snorting for his own feelings and instincts trying to stop him. He couldn't be Emma's first man; she certainly deserved a better man who wasn't always in the sights of an enemy, who could die at any moment.
"Sebastian?!"
Emma felt frustrated. She called him a little louder, making him look at her. The girl didn't notice the instant sadness in the man's eyes. He wanted her, but he couldn't. Not if it was going to spoil who she was.
"What happened?"
Emma walked over to him and touched his arm. The man took a deep breath, looked into her eyes, and wanted to apologize. But he was rude by nature, especially when he wanted to push someone away.
"I don't want to fuck with you."
His words were harsh, hurt
