Chapter 63
Emma had known that since Ramon's first visit, her mother had been acting weird. And now, while both were preparing lunch for a Sunday that was partially quiet, she finally decided to get what she wanted out.
"He's just a friend." Emma replied, shrugging. He felt his mother look at him, but he didn't look back. "He's a good friend, Mom. He's a good person."
"He's scary." the woman said, making Emma chuckle. "and I thought..."
The woman was silent. Emma continued chopping vegetables, but she took a deep breath and looked at her mother.
"What what, Mommy?"
"That you wouldn't mix with these people anymore."
"These people?"
"You understood me. These people of this world."
"I have a son with a man who is part of "this world" but I'm serious, he only comes because he's always worried about me. Does he want to take care of me and Anthony?"
