I stare down at my mate as she remains snuggled between my arms. I see the wheels in her head turning and the pain peers through her eyes. I know she’s struggling to put together the next words that are about to slip out of her mouth. She doesn’t have to admit it because I already know I won’t be pleased with whatever this might be. I place a tender kiss on her forehead, “whatever it is - we’re in this together baby girl”, I tell her. Her nervous energy seems to dissipate, even if it’s only for a minute or two.

I watch as her chest rises and falls until she finally lifts her head ever so gently and turns to face me. “Look Jax, Sophia mentioned something this morning”, she says as her eyes drift off into the tree line behind us.
