Ajax and Ares brought Lei back inside as she opened that rusty, bloodstained envelope. The two acted as her guardians, and their figures loomed behind her like a shadow, as always. With trembling fingers, she traced the wax engraving of the Auctioneer that sealed the letter and took a deep breath.
“I can’t fucking believe he’s dead,” she palmed her face in distress as she held her struggle to tear up. “And to think, after all these years, I had never thought to ask about his welfare.”
