“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Damien asked when he saw how startled I looked.

We were sitting outside a cafe, and my chair was facing the road while Damien’s chair was opposite mine. So he couldn’t see what I was seeing.

However, he turned his head around when I didn’t respond. “Oh, that’s your ex-husband?” He asked when he saw Patrick walking towards the cafe.

I nodded slowly. “Yeah……but I have no idea what he’s doing here,” I replied, my voice tense. “Maybe it’s just a coincidence and he just happened to be here.”

Damien’s eyes lit with something I couldn’t quite place — curiosity? Amusement? — before he smirked. “Well, speak of the devil.”

I knew that things would definitely get messy if both of them saw each other. I knew how Patrick could be sometimes.

“Let’s just continue talking. He doesn’t have to know that I’m here.” I shifted uncomfortably in my chair as I tried to steady my breathing.
