Chapter 42
Patrick Banks POV
“I can’t believe I trusted you. You just made me look like a fool. I could’ve seen right through you but I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt.” Valerie’s angry voice echoed through the other end of the line.
“Calm down, Valerie,” I said, letting out a deep breath. “What are you talking about?” I asked, pretending like I didn’t know what she meant.
I knew exactly what I was doing when I asked her out for lunch. I had a plan and it played out perfectly. There was no way Valerie thought I would give up on her so easily.
It was even surprising to see that she believed me.
I laughed whenever I remembered her words when I walked her to her car after lunch. ‘I guess I won’t be seeing you anymore. Thank you for lunch.’
Valerie was fuming with rage. “Oh, please.” She snapped. “Don’t act like you don't know what I’m talking about. You know exactly what you did.”
Her anger was a confirmation that my plan worked.
