Chapter 41
Valerie Will POV
As soon as I sat down on the chair, Patrick raised a brow at me. “Why did you lie about your marital status?” He asked.
I met his gaze without flinching. “I wanted you to leave me alone.”
My cold response left him stunned.
“Oh.” He muttered, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
It was as if he didn’t expect me to be so honest.
I didn’t say anything else.
“How are you doing?” He tried to start up a conversation.
“Fine,” I replied flatly without looking at him.
I wasn’t there to reconnect.
I just agreed to lunch so he would leave me alone for good. But a part of me felt it wouldn’t be that simple. He wouldn’t give up so easily.
“How did your day go?” He asked, tracing his fingers around the empty wine glass.
I looked at him. “Is this what you asked me out to do? Bore me with generic questions. My day was fine, but it would have been better if I wasn’t here.”
“Ouch.” He chuckled ligh
