It was evening already, the sun cast shadows through windows of Bethany’s living room. Bethany sat on the sofa, her fingers hitting lightly on the armrest and her legs shaking under the table. It was tiring how she had to keep thinking of late. A knock came on the door and she looked towards it briefly before getting up, wondering who it was. She was not expecting any visitor and it was not likely that Maxwell was done for the day. She walked to the door, opened it, and saw Hilda standing at the doorstep. The older woman’s presence was as commanding as ever, her posture rigid and her expression was stern and strict.
Bethany hissed inwardly within her. And who was all this countenance meant for? Who was it meant for?
