My mother’s smile lingers in the dim light, soft but sinister, like a cat toying with a bird. I watch her closely, that gleam in her eyes far too familiar—like she’s savoring a memory soaked in mischief.
There’s something about the way she smiles when she talks about Victoria Montgomery. Something sharp. Personal. The hatred in her voice runs deep, but I still don’t fully understand why. I thought this was all about Dad… about Isabel.
