Chapter 63. Shadows of the Past

Victoria‘s POV

The warmth of Dominic’s touch lingered on my skin as I continued to back away from him, but the distance I created was necessary. My breath came unevenly, and my heart pounded—not just from the heat of the moment but from the surge of memories that struck me like a tidal wave.

Ethan’s laughter echoed in my mind, along with the promises that had once felt so sincere. For better or worse, he’d said, yet those vows had crumbled under the weight of betrayal.

I had poured myself into that marriage, given it my all, and in the end, I had been left shattered. What had all my love amounted to? Nothing, just like my trust.

It still hurts so much till now. Knowing I was willing to do anything and everything for Ethan was too painful; I would have cut off my wrist if he had wanted me to; that was how blindly I had trusted him. And I wasn’t about to trust anyone like that again.

I blinked up at Dominic, whose brows furrowed in quiet confusion.
