We step outta the living room, and the cold hits me like a freaking slap to the face. This wind? Rude as hell. It goes straight through my jacket like it’s got beef with me personally. It’s still pitch dark outside, obviously, but there’s electricity glowing from this part of the mansion like it’s Christmas or something.

I glance over at Mark, who’s walking beside me like he doesn’t even feel the cold. Must be nice.

“Hey, Mark,” I say, squinting at the faint lights. “Been meaning to ask… why’s it lit over here but everywhere else in the pack looks like the apocalypse hit? What’s up with that?”

“Oh, that,” he says, like it’s nothing. “We did try to hook up electricity in other areas, but the curse keeps frying everything. Like, no matter what we do, it just messes it all up.”

I frown. “That’s weird.”

“Yeah, tell me about it. But this part?” He waves his hand around. “Still safe. It’s been fortified, kinda protected, you know?”
