"She sounds like a nice person."
He chuckles a bit and adds, "She was." His laughter resonates, adding a lightness to the conversation. "It is too good and clean for this world. What she got was not good enough for her. In a way, you make me think of her."
"How is that?" I interject, curiosity in my voice. But then I pause, realizing the sensitivity of the topic. "No, wait. If you were not drunk, you might not want to talk about it."
"Damn it. Whenever I am with you, I am drunk," he confesses, frustration evident. I absorb his words, feeling an unexpected sense of warmth.
He continues, "First of all, you make one hell of a tomato soup." He offers a genuine compliment, and a smile tugs at my lips.
