I doubt anybody ever greeted him with wide arms or grinned because he returned. It makes my heart hurt simply thinking about it.

"Welcome home, Angel," I say, opening my arms to him.

Lexcis smiles, a genuine and bright smile. "Home at last," he says, drawing me in for an embrace rather than a kiss. His hand is almost immediately entangled in my hair. I pull back to look up at him, and he decides to kiss me, savoring the sweetness of our reunion. He looks at me, waiting for me to catch his gaze before stealing my breath away.

"I love you," I declare, and he grins again, his eyes lighting up with joy. "I won't get used to hearing you say that." He gently brings me to sit on the blanket between his legs. I put my head on his shoulders, his arms around me, lovingly snuggling me in. "Could you say it again?"
