Chapter 111. They’ll Come for Me

Visitors were few and far between; no one dared to see Jacob. He had never been very nice, to say the least. He accepted only me and Lion, who faithfully guarded the door without grumbling. He was a good friend, one of the few I had. When Larry asked if he could see the king, I hesitated to let him in. But Jacob beckoned me in, so I had to make an effort.
“What had happened?” I asked, a little annoyed, his bad manners making me impatient.
Larry came in without greeting or saying anything but with a smile on his face. It did not look like his usual sarcastic laugh; he was in a much better mood than usual.
“You are alive,” he said to Jacob and stood up. “I knew you would not die so easily.”
