My conversation with the queen was interrupted, and I could leave with a clear conscience because I knew how enemies behaved and the coldness they possessed. They wouldn’t back down just to work for the doctor; many chose only money as a driving force in life. I had learned that throughout my apprenticeship on the streets where I lived.
If I lived here, I’d shed whatever blood was necessary to rid myself of these treacherous and cowardly cultists.
I sought refuge in one of the most desolate places in the castle, right next to the dungeons, where I planned to take a nap.
“Do you have a moment?” Sallie asked as I came to rest.
Actually, I was in control of my own schedule. That day I decided to take a few hours because I had chased a lot of fanatics on the day of the expedition. Fortunately for me, their numbers were dwindling, and they couldn’t hide forever. I’d be there, as always, to strike the blow necessary to make these rats go away.
