I buried my hands in the solid plaster, which seemed immovable because of how heavy it was. I didn’t think for a minute about what I was doing, it was as if a terribly aggressive instinct had completely taken over my mind. A violence unleashed between my hands, as if I could communicate with the sky at the same time.
I felt like a demon, a monster unleashed on earth. As if poison now ran through my veins instead of blood, and the air I breathed was toxic and deadly. It was an addictive, trapping sensation, burning in my chest and throat. When the column began to fall, I could see how it crushed everyone below, and the enemies were annihilated in a quick, efficient, and cruel way.
Jacob reached out his hand to help me up and then hugged me.
No one had ever dared to do something like that before, and if I had been the same old me, I would have killed him for daring to do such a thing. I had saved his children, he knew that, and now he was thanking me.
