Chapter 268. The Countess
DOVE
I walked slowly through the corridors of this new place, early in the morning, while everyone was still asleep. The sun was rising, its warmth spreading.
It was a bright palace, made of stone and marble. It stood on high, winding mountains that we had traveled by carriage. My old kingdom, where I was born so long ago as a simple girl who only wanted to survive one more day, seemed so far away now.
The palace was eccentric in its entirety, with many rooms and corridors, luxuriously decorated with works of art and delicate furniture. Everything was beautiful, neat, and new.
The stone fireplaces burned with a warm fire. The large glass windows let in the daylight. Watching the bright lights and the sun reflecting in the colored glass was a wonderful sight. It made me feel good, calm, a small moment of joy and grace.
It was a magical place, although now magic had different meanings for me. Different concepts than I had before I became queen.
