Chapter 282. Calm Waters

I woke up in the guest room of honor at Count Fabricio’s castle, knowing that we had finally achieved our alliance. I hadn’t slept that well in a very long time.
I stretched my arms still in bed, yawning. My God, there was no greater calm than the one I felt when I woke up that morning. My children were in their crib, sleeping peacefully, safe.
Dove opened her eyes weakly, squinting so that the brightness wouldn’t hurt her. She covered her face and smiled.
“You’re already awake,” she said, with an amused tone.
She clung to me so we could keep sleeping. Although I wasn’t sleepy anymore, the sun was illuminating the whole room with intensity. It must have been around ten, I had never gotten up so late.
She was sleeping again. I found that curious, because lately I noticed that she was experiencing some changes. I was afraid that they were aftereffects of the stress of the war. I didn’t want her health to be affected by everything we had to liv
