Chapter 309. The Kingdom Is Near

I woke up drenched in sweat, bothered by the bites that caused me great pain and an uncontrollable itch.

I heard murmurs in the living room, that veranda that was slightly outside the place. I rubbed my eyes hard, feeling heavy, tired. I wanted to keep sleeping, but the itch made me scratch the welts very hard, which caused me more pain. This damn bed must have been infested with fleas or something. Being in the countryside was horrendous for me, I wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.

I got up, feeling each step I took like an endless odyssey. I leaned against the wall to listen to what they were talking about. A voice I didn’t recognize caught my attention. Glancing sideways, I noticed it was Jason, one of my sister’s friends. It didn’t make sense, maybe I was still dreaming or having nightmares. You couldn’t be sure for certain.

Being here was a curse for me. Every day, I felt like I was losing my youth, time from my life.
