Chapter 308. Friend, Brother

“Hey, don’t go overboard, he’s just an old man,” I said, seeing Chris ready to beat him mercilessly.
He turned to look at me. I noticed more changes in him; he had much darker circles under his eyes, giving him a more grim appearance. I pointed to the back of the carriage.
“I have a wounded friend. If they let me tend to her here…” I started to say, to try to calm the fight down.
I was worried Chris would kill the farmer, because he seemed ready to do it. The merchant, on the other hand, was quite relaxed.
“I’ll get my carriage back now, I suppose. I have things to sell and you’ve delayed me,” he said, his eyes fixed on us. His gaze was proud, lively, that of a merchant who didn’t waste time.
Chris snapped out of his anger cloud to help me lift Lucero. She was asleep, and it would be a while before she recovered. According to the merchant, she had to wait a bit before she could react. I hoped his words were true.
