The last thing I saw before falling unconscious was the entire field covered in smoke, coming from Larry’s powers. John provoked him to such an extent that I knew what was going to happen. They were setting a trap for him.

I wasn’t going to let them fool me, I ran to stop him before it was too late.

When I jumped in to intervene, the explosion hit me. The pain was the easiest thing to remember. In all my years as a soldier, of fights, of attacks, I had never felt such pain. It was similar to a burn with boiling oil, on every part of my feet that went up my legs. I screamed, unable to help it.

“Hold on to life, there is no king without a queen and there is no queen without a king.”

The words from an unknown voice echoed in my head, as I stopped seeing everything around me to fall into a world plagued by darkness. In a heavy, dark atmosphere. I was not dead, but I was not alive either, it was a dire limbo.

If Larry killed me, it would be the m
