Carmen gently held my hand. I knew that she had heard me. She heard that she included me in the condemnation. Because I didn’t believe either.
I never understood what faith was.
“We should get Larry to talk.” Carmen led me arm in arm through the halls.
It didn’t make much sense. Talking to him wouldn’t make me believe. It wouldn’t, because it didn’t for me either.
I had a tightness in my heart because of the discomfort this situation was giving me.
“You should talk to him.” I said, smiling and shrugging my shoulders.
Carmen opened her eyes in surprise.
“Me alone?” she shook her head. “I don’t think he wants to listen to me. Won’t you come with me?”
I shook my head in a gesture of disappointment.
“Not until I believe my own words.” I felt it was time to face my own thoughts.
She did not understand what I meant. She looked at me in confusion. I took her hands and looked deeply into her eyes.
